go and see

http://www.vam.ac.uk/microsites/telling-tales/

the website makes it look a bit tacky but it's not bad.

This exhibition explores the recent trend among European designers for unique or limited edition pieces that push the boundaries between art and design. It showcases furniture, lighting and ceramics, designed by a new generation of international designers, including Tord Boontje, Maarten Baas, Jurgen Bey and Studio Job, who are all inspired by the spirit of story-telling. Each tells a tale through their use of decorative devices, historical allusions or choice of materials, sharing common themes such as fantasy, parody and a concern with mortality.

I have some questions....answer them please.....

Look at the time on your watch or whatever point of reference you normally use to tell the time (might be mobile phone)
Compare the time on your watch to the actual exact GMT (Greenwich meridian time)
- Is your watch fast or slow or the same?
- Is there a reason behind why you have the time on your watch set faster or slower or the same?
- How important to you is being on time?

Thanks

RE: Bas Jan Ader

I was reading about him the other day (can't remember where).......

And there is a video under the same title that is also really sad.

The way he died was quite strange.....
"Ader was lost at sea while attempting a single-handed west-east crossing of the Atlantic in a 13ft pocket cruiser, a modified Guppy 13 named "Ocean Wave". The passage was part of an art performance titled "In Search of the Miraculous". Radio contact broke off three weeks into the voyage, and Ader was presumed lost at sea. The boat was found after 10 months, floating partially submerged 150 miles West-Southwest of the coast of Ireland. His body was never found. The boat, after being recovered by the Spanish fishing vessel that found it, was taken to Coruña. The boat was later stolen" - From good ol' wikipedia

THE GREAT STALACPIPE ORGAN

Deep in the Luray Caverns of Virginia sits the largest musical instrument in the world. The Great Stalacpipe Organ consists of a normal looking organ, but instead of pipes the organ is wired to soft rubber mallets poised before stalactites. When the keyboard is played, the entire subterranean landscape becomes the instrument.
The organ was invented and built in 1954 by Leland SPRINKLE (!!)

Image of black Hole jets

The APEX Telescope in Chile has produced a spectacular, high-resolution image of jets and lobes emanating from the supermassive black hole at the center of Centaurus A, our nearest giant galaxy.

The galaxy is located 13 million light years from Earth and is actually the combination of an elliptical galaxy merging with a spiral galaxy. It has a very active star forming region and is a strong source of radio radiation emitted in the form of jets.

The image is the first taken of the black hole at submillimeter wavelengths, revealing the radio jets of subatomic particles being ejected at about half the speed of light. The lobes north and south of the central dust disc can also be seen. The glow to the lower right of the galaxy is the shockwave created by the lobe colliding with the surrounding gas.

The image is a composite made up of images taken with different instruments at different wavelengths. The Chandra X-ray Observatory imaged X-ray wavelengths, and the MPG/ESO Telescope brought out the background stars and dust disc.
